Discovery Story of the Month

 

What is the greatest Discovery of the last Millenium?

Setting: the Medieval Times in the years 1564 - 1642 Anno Domini

Get ready for the greatest Discovery story ever told!

"He hath first over thrown all former astronomy...and next all ..."

Never before, and seldom since, has scientific news caused such a stir...

If any one person can be said to have set the Scientific Revolution in motion and pulled modern science out of ancient philosophy, he was the man ...

Some of his ideas are not wholly original, and can be traced back to the Middle Ages, even to ancient Greece.

It was rash of him to make his assault on so powerful traditional belief, and the storm broke over his head.

Despite his age and illness he was obliged to go to Rome and abjure openly and absolutely the heresy that "..."

At first, he thought that would be the end of the matter, but a public recantation was not enough.

From his dungeon in Naples, the Dominican friar wrote a defense of him against accusations that his scientific theories were contrary to "the established truth".

Yet he was not silenced. He went on working on new ideas...

Who was this man who created so much controversy, and the injustice of his time could not crush his spirit of scientific inquiry and discovery?
