This circuit can be built to test how a simple diode works.

Rectification

This is the simplest rectification circuit you can build. The output wave looks like this:

The rectified potential is known as half-wave rectification.

The addition of a filtering capacitor smoothens out the rectified potential.

This is a full-wave rectification that uses four diodes.
