Diodes This circuit can be built to test how a simple diode works. Rectification This is the simplest rectification circuit you can build. The output wave looks like this: The rectified potential is known as half-wave rectification. [Click >> to see the output potential] The addition of a filtering capacitor smoothens out the rectified potential. This is a full-wave rectification that uses four diodes. Here is another circuit that achieves the same type of full-wave rectification. Look how a filtering capacitor smoothens out the direct current. Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) are used in signal devices for timing purposes.
